Rangers hit back to beat Dundee: Premiership – BBC Sport

While a flat and dejected crowd might have been expected after last weekend’s Old Firm defeat, which all but confirmed Celtic as champions, more professionalism was expected from the Rangers players.

Instead, the home crowd were left frustrated in the first half, as evidenced by the petulant play of Fabio Silva and Cantwell and the uncertain defense.

There were flashes of decent stuff from the hosts. Ridvan Yilmaz had one saved by Jon McCracken, Mohamed Diamonde saw one whistle wide and McCausland had a shot saved in one-on-one.

Despite this, the crowd was silent and then silent as Dundee continued, as Owen Dodgson’s low ball was buried by McGhee at the back post.

There was barely time for any boos before the visitors extended their lead. Dodgson was again the provider, sending in a low cross for Portales to tap the ball into the bottom corner.

Rangers managed to sober up quickly, with McCausland weaving into the box and piercing through McCracken’s legs to ease the tension on half-time.

At half-time the cheering was deafening, but Rangers responded well. Cantwell, who looked like a different player in the second half, curled a beautiful cross and Dessers headed it into the ground and bounced into the top corner.

Cantwell completed the comeback himself by whipping a cross over McCracken and sneaking it home at the back post. His badge kiss celebration suggested he meant it.

Rangers piled on the pressure, quickly depleting Dundee’s confidence. Ultimately, Wright wrapped up the win when Kieran Dowell picked up a loose ball and crossed it to the back post, with the substitute passing it into the net.

It would end up being more than comfortable. The visitors were wilted and left themselves open, allowing McCausland to find Wright on the left as the former Dundee winger skipped in to score his second and Rangers’ fifth.
