T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya among Indian stars heading to New York on May 25

Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya are some of the names who will all fly to New York on May 25 for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.

Team India will kick off their campaign on June 5 against Ireland at the Nassau County Stadium in New York. Rohit Sharma’s men will don a brand new kit during the World Cup and as always, there are high expectations for the Men in Blue in yet another ICC event.

Less than 6 months ago, the Indian team lost the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on home soil and 6 months later, the Indians have got another chance. Rohit Sharma’s men will aim to become the first Indian side since MS Dhoni’s XI to win the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007 when the current captain himself was 20 years old.

The dates have been shifted from May 21 to May 25 for the first Indian batch to leave for New York

The initial date for the departure of the first Indian batch to New York was set for May 21, while the remaining contingent would fly after May 25. However, due to unknown circumstances, the BCCI has pushed back the departure date to May 25, a day before the IPL 2024 final in Chennai.

All Indian players who will definitely not participate in the IPL play-offs will leave the country 10 days before their opening match against Ireland. Captain Rohit Sharma and vice-captain Hardik Pandya will be accompanied by them MI teammates Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah along with wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, all-rounder Axar Patel and left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh.

A BCCI source has revealed that the board wants the players to spend more time with their families as India will play only one warm-up game. Rohit Sharma and co. will take on continental rivals Bangladesh on June 1.
